BuiltAfrica
Foundation
Overview
The BuiltAfrica Foundation was established as a structure through which BuiltAfrica Holdings can conduct its corporate social investment support of local communities. It is an honor and a privilege to be in a position to give back to communities.
We believe it is our duty to build up and meaningfully support local communities. Our intention is to provide growth opportunities that promote the potential of the individuals who comprise those communities.
In particular, the BuiltAfrica Foundation’s contributions focus on supporting the following:
Early Childhood Development
The first 1000 days require appropriate pre-natal interventions, followed by the correct pre-school interventions between the ages of 3 and 5 years of a child to assure physical, and mental development. We believe that no child should be denied nutrition and mental stimulation during these periods. Our intention is to provide support to this essential developmental phase as and when appropriate.
Support of Educational Endeavours in General
Yet to launch.
Tertiary Student Sponsorships
The focus of the programme is to support students in fields that most directly contribute to participation in the mainstream economy. As such, science and commerce studies will be prioritised but will not be the only fields of study supported through this programme.
In 2020, three students are being supported in their studies at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal.
Support of Specific Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs
Yet to launch.
Literary Initiatives Including Those That Chronicle the Stories of Black South African Activists
The focus of this programme is to highlight the stories of the lesser known people who have made a significant contribution to the attainment of freedom and the general development of Black communities in South Africa. The first project has been the publication of the autobiography of Virginia Thudiso Gcabashe in 2020. It is titled “Divine Gift Divine Purpose – Journey of Service” and we are proud to be associated with this meaningful publication.
Related Community Relief Efforts
The intention is to assist in mitigating the harmful impact of disasters that befall communities from time to time, such as the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in very significant ways. Families have endured complete loss of income as retrenchments have increased. The most needy in society have very few options and have endured the worse impact of this disruption.
In response, the Foundation has partnered with other organisations offering food parcels or food vouchers that have supported hundreds of families in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal communities.
